How to get more privacy in your WeChat account (and how to use the VPN)

Posted October 01, 2018 12:07:20 WeChat is a popular app for chatting with people in China.
But that’s not the only app weChat has, with the Chinese version of Google Hangouts available as well.
The company says it has a privacy policy that allows it to share your data with third parties for research purposes.
But the policy is rather vague and does not mention WeChat’s VPN service, which allows users to share data with Google servers over a network.
Here are some things to know about WeChat VPN: WeChat has a VPN service for its users WeChat uses its own servers for data sharing WeChat does not offer a VPN option for the Chinese market WeChat doesn’t sell data The VPN works with the WeChat app on both Android and iOS devices It’s free to use WeChat-only VPN WeChat can’t encrypt data with its VPN provider It’s impossible to share encrypted data with the VPN provider WeChat says it’s in talks with VPN providers to offer a way to encrypt data WeChat will not sell or use your data for any commercial purpose If you’re using the VPN, the app allows you to send and receive private messages and chats from your Weibo account, but it’s not possible to send encrypted data to a WeChat client.
WeChat said it will soon launch an encrypted version of its WeChat application for Android.
The VPN does encrypt data, but there is no way to send it to the app.
