Wechat, the popular messaging app owned by Tencent Holdings Ltd., said on Thursday that it has signed up over 200 million users worldwide.
The app, which was first launched in China in November 2017, has now received more than 5 billion monthly active users, according to WeChat’s blog.
Over the past year, the app has also made waves around the world.
In September, Apple’s Siri was announced to be part of the iOS 11 operating system.
Earlier this month, a major U.S. newspaper said it had obtained a confidential report from a former WeChat employee that showed that the company used Chinese software to hide information on its users’ phone numbers.
The news comes as the company continues to grapple with how to deal with the fallout from a recent data breach.
WeChat last week announced that it was halting all new users until the company could determine whether the company had been hacked.
